Small operations
When you would like to book a tour and not be surrounded by crowds, it is definitely recommended to check that one. Small operations put way more effort into creating a better experience for you. Usually guides and the whole team behind it have more time for you and choose to work in small operations because of the passion. Those operations do not gather as much internet attention but they should definitely get yours. Guides who enter this path of carrier because of their calling do not want to waste their passion by rushing travelers during their trips. And that brings us to the second point.
Experience guides
The smaller the operation the more qualified the guide team. A lot of safety tasks,decision making and workload is put on a smaller team, in that case the team has to be strong and effective. If the company hires a higher level of experienced guides you would definitely be able to check their skills on the website.
Ratio client to guide
The less the better. Very often we see the sentence “small groups”. What does it mean? It can mean many things. Best way to find out if you would be in a small group is to call or email the operator and ask how many groups are departing at the same time and how many people are in one group. Good question to ask as well is how many other companies are operating in the same place. That will give you more inside about your experience.
Exclusive permits
If the company promotes that they are the only ones guiding there, that’s the place to go. A lot of popular places are crowded because we all want to see the same fascinating features. That’s natural. But when it comes to guided tours we would definitely recommend checking if the operator provides the tours that are strictly permitted for them. This way you can be sure to see as beautiful of the place as other more commonly known but you will do it away from the crowds.
Multi day tour
While some of us book a car or other transportation it is also an option to travel with a designated guide through the entire country. That said again we recommend booking a tour from a small company and getting in contact with your guide/driver or a person responsible for your travel. You might be able to change some of the included tours for those of your preferences (aiming for a better experience).
